Do you ever walk down the hall and happen to notice a fellow Farmer wearing a foreign football jersey? If you’re like me, this really grinds your gears.

News flash: we live in Colorado; wear local sports teams’ apparel or none at all. When you come to school wearing a variety of jerseys, representing teams down each coast of our country, you obviously must have an interesting background to be attracted to so many teams. Football jerseys especially tend to fall in the more expensive category of professional sports memorabilia. When someone has a variety of sports jerseys it really catches my eye.

Let me give you some insight on my background. I’m a fan of all Colorado teams. I enjoy watching, cheering, and representing all of them. But to throw you a curveball, I am a very big New York Yankee fan. For personal reasons I have always enjoyed the Yankees, especially when the Rockies year after year send me into depression. But guess what? I don’t wear Yankee’s apparel in public or at school. Honestly it is just insensitive.

I also enjoy the NFL a lot. I participate in numerous fantasy football leagues, and watch as much football as the local listings permit. I like Odell Beckham Jr. as a person and fantasy player, yet I don’t have his jersey. Some people in this establishment make it obvious they like a lot of players and think it is necessary to purchase multiple jerseys. I have yet to notice a lower-end player get his name represented on the back of a jersey. So this tells me some people tend to follow players who have mountainous reputation for making the ESPN Top 10.  Anyone else sensing a trend?

My only call-to-action is for you to think about it in the morning when you decide to reach for the football jersey that isn’t  Broncos. Think to yourself, “How do I look to a Broncos Fan if I wear a Seahawks’ or a Patriots’ jersey?” Go to Buffalo Wild Wings and deal with the people there, not here on the Farm. I understand just because you were born in or are from a certain place, that doesn’t obligate you to support the local team. Like whoever you want. But I’m going to leave you with something a friend constantly tells me day in day out. “Everyone has a right to their opinion, even if it’s wrong.”
