Thespian Troupe Triumphs in Competition

By Ryquiel Maldonado, Rookie Reporter

The Farmer theatre department has been invited to join in the Jeffco theatre competitions this year.

They compete in Jeffco and like any sport, if they are good enough they go to state. The Jeffco competition were Sat. Nov.16, at the Denver Convention center in Downtown Denver, and the state competition is Dec. 6.

While they are there, they will participate in workshops and perform various scenes and duets to get  positive feedback and advice to get better and improve. They are given a score on how well they have done with their performance, and they receive both criticism and comments about their performance, from the judges.

The theatre competition is an annual Colorado state competition for both high school and middle school students to perform in. In order to get in you have to have a higher level acting in school and you must commit to five after school rehearsal times. The amount of people who are able to get in are as many as the theatre program is able to get into their program. The ones who have more experience are ones who are more likely to get in. The actors also have to rehearse a lot as well to go, and they make sure that they practice what the need to before their competitions.

The activities that students do in the competition and compete with are monologues (solo), duet scenes, solo musical, and technical theatre. Each category is scored differently, and the participants in the competitions all choose which one they want to do depending on which one they are better at.

Some of the students here on the Farm are going to be in the competition and try to go to state for something that they enjoy doing. Each of the students who have gotten in have to be committed and well rehearsed become better and work hard to do their absolute best they can.

“We have four students going to the Jeffco Festival. The students are Alex Haussman, Sian Martin, Lyndsay Krausa, and Amanda Potter. They performed duet scenes from Flowers for Algernon and Steel Magnolias. It was wonderful,” said drama teacher Autumn Ehrhardt.
