On a cold, nippy, December eve, Wheat Ridge High School’s drama department brought many friends and families together for a wonderful performance.

A Christmas Carol was the perfect play to help everyone get ready for this holiday season.

With Amanda Potter playing the lead role of Scrooge, I’m not sure anyone could have played it better. Potter owned the stage with her wide range of acting techniques. From a grumpy old man to one feeling remorse, and then to an old man full of holiday cheer, Potter’s performance was superb.

“I think the play went really well,” says audience member Zoe Sares, senior. “It’d have to be the best one yet.”

Tiny Tim, played by second grader Jack Lantzy, was found to be many people’s favorite character because he was so adorable and small. His line, “God bless us, everyone!” really gave the crowd something to smile about.

The great acting jobs from all of the Christmas ghosts really made the audience feel like they were traveling in time beside Scrooge. Ghost of Christmas Past, played by sophomore Molly Merewether, made the audience feel how Scrooge once was happy about Christmas and how everything sadly fell apart for him.

Ghost of Christmas Present, played by sophomore Simon Becerra, made the audience laugh yet feel passionate that Scrooge better not give up on Christmas for what consequences he may have in the future.

Then as Ghost of Christmas Future, played by senior Eli Leyba, arrived at 3 A.M., fear and sadness spreads through the audience. However, in the end, Scrooge learns to love Christmas again.

The costumes and set for the play were other features that were absolutely eye-catching. The two separate buildings on each side of the stage centered with the main town gave the audience a feel of realism. This set up also helped with scene changes making sense. The costumes were great and helped decipher the different social classes; they were very well put together and gave off the warmth of Christmas spirit.

Lastly, director Autumn Ehrhardt did an absolutely fantastic job of putting the whole play together. Without her, the play may have been more of a “humbug” than anything.

Wheat Ridge High School’s drama department really put on a show with A Christmas Carol. It was a wonderful play and really brought the joy and cheer that is needed to prepare for this holiday season.
