    Top+10+Comedy+Specials+of+2015

By Corcoran O’Leary and Rio Duran

Every year stand-up comics release specials, an hour or so of completely new stand-up material. Some legends come out with new material and some nobody explodes with success after a new special. Either way, there are many new comedy specials that deserve recognition, so we decided compile a list of what we thought were the 10 best comedy specials of 2015.

    10. Demetri Martin- Live (At the Time)

Fans of Demetri Martin fell in love with the comedian through his clever take on the mundane and an act that relies on wit and a deadpan delivery to elicit huge laughs. None of this changes in his new special, Demetri Martin Live (At the Time) where he once again brings his signature humor to a large stage. When you’re not laughing out loud, you’ll be appreciating the cleverness of each punchline, wishing you thought of it yourself. There’s something delightful about laying back and watching one man skew the simple things that surround us everyday to turn them into something genuinely funny.

    9. Matt Braunger Big Dumb Animal

In his special Big Dumb Animal he depicts himself as just that. He puts a hilarious twist on the struggles of being 39. He may take a while to warm up but when he does you will love it. When you couple the funny stories of a man who isn’t good enough to be 40 with the abrupt attitude of this beast you get a great show that you won’t want to end.

    8. Aziz Ansari Live At Madison Square Garden

Aziz Ansari returns for his fourth special and delivers a delightful show that depicts a young man’s observations on romance, the digital age and food. While not inherently a unique perspective, Ansari’s likability and energy on stage are part of what makes him so watchable. Taking the stage, Ansari appears as a sympathetic character and comes off as thoughtful while managing to deliver solid jokes and enjoyable insight.

    7. Jim Norton Contextually Inadequate

Jim Norton’s brand of comedy isn’t for everyone, but if you’re looking for a raunchy. politically incorrect comedian to tell you how the world really works while still making it all sound hilarious than this is the guy for you. His offensive act isn’t just there for the sake of shock value. He gives his raw opinion of sensitive topics that everyone else is too afraid to tackle. From controversial topics to everyday instances, he covers them all in an easy-to-grasp and hilarious way.

6.Amy Schumer Live at the Apollo

Amy Schumer delivers healthy doses of raunch and poignancy in her new special Live at the Apollo. While remaining largely irreverent, Schumer treats the audiences to glimpses of genuine insight that achieve in heightening the humor of her act. Schumer has evolved and every joke has purpose and is delivered with a unique eloquence that keeps her from falling in with the masses of stand-up that surround her. Also adding to the strength of the special is the absence of an overwhelming reliance on her shocking off-handed sexual jokes, instead opting for a more rounded performance that presents a of variety of jokes that do not rely on a shtick.

    5. Iliza Shlesinger Freezing Hot

Whoever said women comedians aren’t funny has obviously never seen Iliza Schlesinger’s show. She shares things like how girls think and gives ironic and satirical reasons on why they act the way they do. She plays into stereotypes and then adds a comedic twist. While you watch you will be laughing the whole time. She finds a way to make the most mundane things hilarious and you never know what she is going to say next.

    4. Anthony Jeselnik- Thoughts and Prayers

Dubbed “The Dark Prince of Comedy” Anthony Jeselnik lives up to his famous title in Thoughts and Prayers, a wickedly dark and hilarious special featuring all the dead baby jokes you never thought you’d want to hear. When tuning in to Jeselnik’s new special, one must shut down all sympathy they may have for humanity and bask in the perverse joy of Jeselnik’s twisted one-liners. This special is admirable. At 36, Jeselnik has conquered his stage persona and his ability to come off as a sleek but unforgiving nihilist elevates the humor in his special, somehow managing to gain audience sympathy. The clever jokes and flawless execution help make Anthony Jeselnik’s new special one of the best of 2015.

    3. Louis C.K- Live at the Comedy Store

Being a long-time fan of Louis C.K, I was extremely excited for his new special Live at the Comedy Store and I was not disappointed in the slightest. After viewing this special I wonder if there’s anything that Louis C.K can’t turn into a hilarious act. The things he talks about range from his daughters to unruly bats and manages to keep the entire special consistently gut-busting. One of the things I love about C.K is that he ditches the standard set-up and punchline approach and is instead able to make make it feel as if he’s simply talking to the audience, making it all up on the spot. While this, of course, isn’t true, it adds an unpredictability to his act that is greatly appreciated. Louis C.K is a man I admire, though I’m not quite sure why, because he doesn’t romanticize himself in his act in the slightest; there just must be something about his ability to effortlessly make a crowd erupt into laughter that I can’t help but envy.

    2. Chris D’elia-Incorrigible

Chris D’elia is a master of comedy. Most comedians take a while to warm up but not D’elia, he comes out swinging. From the moment he walks out on stage you can tell he loves it and that his fans love him.  It brings a level of friendship to the show because it seems like you both are enjoying it. As soon as D’elia starts talking you realize that he is an eccentric character who is all over the place. It seems like half the time he doesn’t even realize where he is going with a joke. This only adds to the laugh factor when he says something hysterical and he starts laughing with you. While watching his show I couldn’t think of a time where I wasn’t falling out of my chair laughing. Even now thinking back to his show makes me start laughing hysterically.

    1.  Bo Burnham-Happy

This is unlike any other show on our list. It’s so much more than a classic comedy show. You will think you wandered into a concert. And you would be half right. Burnham’s comedy style mixes witty statements with a perfect music ensemble. He manages a healthy mix of traditional comedy and musical performances. His spastic style might be hard for some to follow, but if you are attentive enough you can see comedy in everything he says. His show is an experience that you won’t soon forget.
