Actual American Turmoil: the First 2020 Presidential Debate

Donald John Trump, The Man, the Myth, the Fascist, The President of the U.S.A. but i’ll be referring to him as Trump.

Trump has been the president for about four years and in those four years he has not done much for America or its people. In 2016, Trump promised a plethora of things such as more jobs, a better economy, a southern border wall, having Mexico pay for said wall, get rid of Obama Care, temporarily ban all Muslims from the U.S, ending the war in Iraq, and so much more. How many of these things has he accomplished here, you ask? He didn’t make a massive wall. It’s pitifully small, 300 miles of border wall have been built but only 5 mile are newly constructed, now I don’t know if you know this but the southern border is much bigger than 300 miles. He also never got Mexico to pay for it. However, he has greatly increased “border control” but the amount of traffic flowing through the border causes the increased security to create an overflow in the holding blocks for immigrants which ends up making concentration camp like conditions. I can call them concentration camps because holocaust survivors have compared the southern border to the camps they attended back in the 1940’s. Keep in mind not all camps were as brutal as Auschwitz.
It’s especially sad when children are separated from their parents, sometimes for a few days and sometimes until they turn 18. The separation can cause major trauma due to the parents being alive, the foreign language, the abuse and much more. If the child is old enough to understand, they will spend their whole life unsure if their parents made it to America or not or if they were one of the people who have died in the camps due to poor conditions that cause diseases. As for the future of a child’s life after separation, a child is put into the American foster system, where you are four times more likely to be sexually abused at a young age. When certain people are confronted with these facts the most common response is “Well Obama did it too!” I can’t see how that makes it better and, when it comes to immigration, there is a lot to unpack, but I have more to discuss.
Trump is a fascist and there is no way to avoid that fact anymore. Here’s why he’s a fascist. Umberto Eco was an Italian medievalist philosopher who wrote the 14 most common traits in a fascist. He grew up under the fascist dictatorship of Mussolini, which would inspire him to write about the weak philosophy of fascism. When you think fascism, you probably think of the U.S.S.R and Nazi Germany, and, while those are both definitely fascist regimes, fascism can truly be done by anyone ignorant or self-absorbed enough. The 14 steps are as follows.
The cult of tradition. “One has only to look at the syllabus of every fascist movement to find the major traditionalist thinkers. The Nazi gnosis was nourished by traditionalist, syncretistic, occult elements.”
The rejection of modernism. “The Enlightenment, the Age of Reason, is seen as the beginning of modern depravity. In this sense Ur-Fascism can be defined as irrationalism.”
The cult of action for action’s sake. “Action being beautiful in itself, it must be taken before, or without, any previous reflection. Thinking is a form of emasculation.”
Disagreement is treason. “The critical spirit makes distinctions, and to distinguish is a sign of modernism. In modern culture the scientific community praises disagreement as a way to improve knowledge.”
Fear of difference. “The first appeal of a fascist or prematurely fascist movement is an appeal against the intruders. Thus Ur-Fascism is racist by definition.”
Appeal to social frustration. “One of the most typical features of the historical fascism was the appeal to a frustrated middle class, a class suffering from an economic crisis or feelings of political humiliation, and frightened by the pressure of lower social groups.”
The obsession with a plot. “Thus at the root of the Ur-Fascist psychology there is the obsession with a plot, possibly an international one. The followers must feel besieged.”
The enemy is both strong and weak. “By a continuous shifting of rhetorical focus, the enemies are at the same time too strong and too weak.”
Pacifism is trafficking with the enemy. “For Ur-Fascism there is no struggle for life but, rather, life is lived for struggle.”
Contempt for the weak. “Elitism is a typical aspect of any reactionary ideology.”
Everybody is educated to become a hero. “In Ur-Fascist ideology, heroism is the norm. This cult of heroism is strictly linked with the cult of death.”
Machismo and weaponry. “Machismo implies both disdain for women and intolerance and condemnation of nonstandard sexual habits, from chastity to homosexuality.”
Selective populism. “There is in our future a TV or Internet populism, in which the emotional response of a selected group of citizens can be presented and accepted as the Voice of the People.”
Ur-Fascism speaks Newspeak. “All the Nazi or Fascist schoolbooks made use of an impoverished vocabulary, and an elementary syntax, in order to limit the instruments for complex and critical reasoning.”
Trump Checks almost every single box, of course you don’t need all the traits to be considered a fascist. Trump has very often “joked” about not leaving if he loses the election. He has come out to say that “if I lose, it has to be rigged”. He and his followers say that they would want him to be president for over two terms which is definitely illegal and very fascist.
Trump’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic has been abysmal. Even after admitting to playing it down and the constant lies of saying the masks do nothing, his followers haven’t yet once questioned his authority. Here are a few quotes from Trump’s mouth itself,
“It’ll disappear just like that…kids are virtually immune to this thing” “It affects virtually nobody” “The numbers are looking MUCH better, almost going down everywhere” “Its fading away, it’s going to fade away” “99% of Covid-19 cases are totally harmless” “Obama’s response to H1N1 was a full scale disaster” “ inherited a broken test” “ anybody who wants a test can have a test” “ it’s all China’s fault” “ I enjoy playing it down, is still like playing it down.”
As you can see, Trump is unable to take responsibility or even let somebody else take responsibility. Yet so many people trust him. I’m very certain he will lose. At this point my greatest fear is what will happen after the election when he loses. He will have two months before Biden’s inauguration. My fear is what will he do in those two measly little months. Only time will tell. Until then all I can ask is that for those who can vote, please.
