There is no stopping senior Erika Porras.
Perseverant and outgoing, Miss Porras is not afraid to try new things, be a leader and be herself. She encourages her younger Wheat Ridge High School peers to do the same and never let high school take away from their enthusiasm.
Between her school activities, volunteering, and babysitting, it is impressive how she has been able to keep a balance in busy her life. Being an avid member of swim team, debate and key club, Porras has also partaken in cross country and golf. Her selfless activities include helping out the upcoming Jam Out Hunger event, and participating in Jefferson County Youth Leadership program.
Of course it’s the help from her adult colleagues that has helped her accomplish being the person she is. Her mother has inspired her to be kind in all situations; meanwhile, her sister has taught her to be in command of her desires. On the Farm, Porras thanks social studies teacher Polly Furay for allowing her to be enthusiastic in class and for encouraging modesty in being prideful. The senior would also like to thank physics teacher Andy Shultz for reminding her that there are never wrong times to put your best effort forth and to never give up.
Being a very dedicated Disney fan, one of Porras’ favorite quotes is from Cinderella’s “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes”: “no matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true.” Her favorite films include most Disney films, Some Like It Hot, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Notebook and Good Fellas.
This top 20 senior has yet to make definite plans on college, but she still has her eyes set forth on getting an undergraduate degree in the field of law and eventually hopes to be Chief Justice for the Supreme Court.
