Top senior Parker McVey has been a part of a lot of activities while attending Wheat Ridge.
He has participated in cross-country for three years and track for all four years. He also played tuba in band from freshman to senior year and made first chair All-County for three consecutive years.
Outside of school, McVey has worked in his mother’s law firm, helping file, scan and organize important documents. He also impressively helped build a school in rural Guatemala. “This transformed my passion and now my goal is to raise awareness and money for education in Guatemala,” says McVey. “I wish that there was no more hunger, no more homeless people, and no more greed. I wish that education was available to everyone.” McVey’s dream is to change the world and he “will do everything [he] can do” to make his dream a reality.
A teacher McVey would like to thank is social studies teacher Stephanie Rossi for being an inspiration when he took her Comparative Religions class his junior year. “It was the most memorable experience. Those of us in that will never forget how incredible it was,” explains McVey. He also saw social studies teacher Arik Heim and english teachers Matt Couch and Angela Pera as influential personas in his life. “If it weren’t for them,” says McVey, “I wouldn’t be the person I am today.”
McVey will go to Colorado College in Colorado Springs next year and hopes to study art history, philosophy and political economics. His advice for remaining Farmers is to take advantage of every opportunity.
