Colin Ferraro, one of Wheat Ridge’s beloved teachers, was born 1996 in Guatemala, Guatemala city. Ferraro’s favorite color is red and he has two cats, whose names are Buttercup and Finnagan. He also enjoys playing video games as a hobby.
His favorite movie changes often but at this moment it is Everything Everywhere All at Once. Out of school you can catch Ferraro reading books, collecting Pokemon cards, or at the gym with his girlfriend.
Before moving to Colorado Ferraro lived in Arizona. When speaking to him about why he moved to Colorado he stated, “I just like Colorado’s politics, Arizona is more conservative. Colorado just felt more like a vibe to me.”
Ferraro has been teaching for five years and all five years on the farm. With three sections of AP literature, and two sections of English honors, with an average of 30 students per class! He found out about Wheat Ridge because he was applying anywhere he could and got lucky enough to get an amazing job here on the Farm!
Ferraro loves it at Wheat Ridge. It feels like his place and he feels if he went anywhere else it wouldn’t feel right. The demographic works for him, and he feels that the staff and students get each other and are on the same page. And he doesn’t take Wheat Ridge for granted.
His teaching journey, howevver, is much different than you could imagine. He says that there was only one time where he didn’t want to teach and that was during Covid, he “didn’t like the hybrid situation” but other than that he never came across a time where he didn’t want to teach. Covid was also in his first semester of teaching, but he still persevered through it and stayed at Wheat Ridge High School.
Growing up, Ferraro’s favorite subject was drama and English. When asked about his high school experience he replied, “It was good, and high school is where you figure yourself out and I’m thankful to say I did that.” He then says he was a shy kid and found it difficult to talk to people in general. In order to fix that trait, he joined drama in his sophomore year. He then met his drama teacher who changed his life and made Ferraro want to become a teacher. He is a teacher because of the impact as a person his drama teacher had on him. For him it’s about parting those same lessons on students.
