When spring time hits and the boys and girls start to show off their biceps and tanned legs, high school rivals the Wheat Ridge Farmers and the Golden Demons face off on the runway for a male beauty pageant.

This year, six senior boys and one junior boy from each school competed. For Wheat Ridge, the contestants were John Marvel, Jack Gosage, Cameron Hill, Brendan Moss, Gavin Phillips, and junior Ian Spetnagel. Each one had to complete three stages and impress the judges as much as possible, whether it be through their talents or by looking the classiest in a tuxedo.

The first stage was the swimsuit show-off, which included a description of the contestants’ favorite things to do, as well as their turn-offs. After the judges determined the winner, the next stage was up. This was the skill setter; showing off their abiliity to impress any girl who watches. Some of the skills from the fabulous Farmers were lip syncing by John Marvel, cleaning with a vacuum from Jack Gosage, and dancing skills by Brendan Moss. Additionally, Farmers Phillips, Spetnagel, and Hill, killed the competition with beat boxing, table serving, and lip syncing to Justin Bieber.

The Demon boys fired right back in the skill stage. One boy’s talent was described as “Zoolander,” while another rapped the ABC’s and solved a Rubik’s cube at the same time. Again, more singing and break dancing occurred on the Demons’ side of the curtain.

At last, stage three; the six contestants who made it past stage two were dressed in their best tuxedos while dancing and singing to one of their favorite songs in order to knock the socks off the judges. Farmer Moss, while in his too-baggy tuxedo, stole the hearts of many girls that night while grabbing at his heart and singing to Maroon 5’s “She Will Be Loved.” The Demon boys tried to swoon the judges by handing out roses and blowing petals at their faces, making two Farmer history teachers, Brittany Hovland and Stephanie Rossi, giggle like high school girls once again.

However, there was a final round, where the best three boys from Golden and Wheat Ridge were asked three questions. Their improvised answers determined who was to win title of Mr. GoldenRidge 2017. The only Wheat Ridge finalist, Gosage, gave simple answers, getting straight to the point of the question. The two other finalists, Tanner Taylor and Kevin Lockwood from Golden, gave arguably more persuasive answers. When asked the question, “What’s better; being classy or sexy?” Taylor gave the answer of both, causing girls to howl and scream in agreement. Lockwood gave the same answer as baby-faced Taylor, but got a boo when he mentioned for the second time that night what a girl does on a date that makes it not so enjoyable, and what she could do to fix it.

At the end of the night, a sad loss was given to the Wheat Ridge Farmers, with Gosage in third while Lockwood won second and Rubik’s cube rapper Taylor won the title of Mr. GoldenRidge 2017. Despite being on the Farmers’ home turf, all the talents and hip movements that the Demon boys did allowed them to steal the victory. Five seniors and one lonely junior may have not won this year, but being able to be part of Mr. GoldenRidge for their last year of high school must have been an honor.
