Things are looking great for our girls golf team this season!
With sixteen girls signed up this year, the team is slightly larger than previous years, several being beginning players. The season started at the end of March, and the team is looking forward to participating in the State Tournament during the third week of May.
On April 28, the team hosted the Ashley Forey Tournament on its 20th anniversary. The event took place at Rolling Hills Country Club, and 134 female players participated. Among those participating teams were Cherry Creek, Arapahoe, Kent and Valor Christian.
After coaching the Farmers team for eight years now, Tom Dowd compares this season to past seasons, saying, “It was good to see we have quite a few good freshman this year, and I think the future looks pretty good.”
When interviewed, Dowd made note of his most outstanding players. Senior Ashley Dorrel has played golf all four years she’s attended WRHS, and this year has been a terrific year for her. Sophomore Leah Donnelly finished third in the league with an outstanding 81.5 scoring average. Sophomore Emma Lewis has also had an impressive year, and according to Dowd, she has improved immensely.
If you’re on the fence about playing golf, give it a shot! This year has been a great example of how even for new players, golf can be a success!
