On Friday Sept. 5th the Farmers Cross Country team had a meet at Cherry Creek Reservoir.
Wheat Ridge faced off against Cherry Creek HS, Arapahoe HS, and many different schools from all around Colorado. This was the Farmer’s second run of the season, and all races are 5ks or 3.106 miles. The runs are about pacing not speed. For this race Wheat Ridge experienced good running weather until the end of the run when it started to rain.
Wheat Ridge had prepared themselves well for the race. “Cross country runners pushed themselves really hard, to a point of everyone having to ice their injuries,” said Raechel Buehler a JV runner, “ I expect us to push really hard and maybe someone on varsity will get a medal.”
Unfortunately no medals were awarded to the WRCC, team but Ryan Abo, a senior on varsity who had this to say about his and the teams performances, “I wanted to do better, but I was happy with how I ran. Overall I think we ran really well this race.”
When asked what the team will build off of Abo answered, “We’ll just look at our times from this last run and try to beat them every time.”
After an amazing performance by WRCC they still push to run harder, stronger and faster every week. The team had worked hard prior to the run, during the run, and after the run.
Coaches Scott and Judy Chamberlin have had the runners working hard by running speed practice, long sustained running, and hills. If you walk by Crown Hill, Paramount Park, or in the Wheat Ridge greenbelt after school, you can find the WRCC runners training for their next run. The season ends in late October and WRCC won’t stop pushing until then. They all want to strive to bring home a medal or a trophy to put on display. The team still has a full season ahead of them, so be sure to go and support them if you can.
