Another great season has gone by, and it is now time for the 2014 World Series.
This year’s matchup of the Kansas City Royals and the San Francisco Giants should be a good one. Both the Royals and Giants got into the playoffs as wild card winners.
The Royals beat out the Oakland Athletics in their furious extra-inning wild card game, lasting 12 innings. Since then, they haven’t looked back, winning the next seven games, beating out the Los Angeles Angels and the Baltimore Orioles and winning the American League Championship.
The Giants absolutely demolished the Pittsburgh Pirates and their playoff dreams with an 8-0 win in their wild card game. They then went on to win against the Washington Nationals in a series consisting of great matchups and the longest game ever played in MLB playoff history, lasting 6 hours and 23 minutes over 18 innings. The Giants then went on to play the St. Louis Cardinals, winning the series 4-1.
The 110th World Series starts on Tuesday, Oct. 21, in Kansas City. The Royals will have home field advantage after the American League All-star team won, the 2014 All-Star game.
The Royals have won all eight playoff games they played so far and they are looking to become the first team since the 1976 Cincinnati Reds, “Big Red Machine” team. Another great fact, the Royals have not lost a playoff game since Oct. 23, 1989. However, that is only because that was the last time they made the playoffs.
The Giants on the other hand, have won two championships in the last four years. If everything goes in their favor, they will have won three World Series in four years and have probably one of the greatest post-season performances of a single team in the modern era.
My prediction, however, is that it is going to be a close series between both teams, but the Royals will beat the Giants in seven games.
