It was a successful weekend for the Wheat Ridge Poms.

For the second year in a row, they claimed the state championship title for 4A poms. The cheer team also had success as they took third place in the 4a cheer competition.

Twenty-four teams faced off with Wheat Ridge at state for the poms competition. They placed first in the preliminaries. That placement got them a spot in the finals, where they maintained their first place footing. They beat out Valor Christian High School, Erie High School, and Roosevelt High School.

In the cheer competition, 31 teams competed. The cheer team placed sixth in the preliminaries, advancing to the finals. They moved up three places to claim third place in the finals. Valor Christian High School and Thompson Valley High School placed ahead of them.

The long day of competition stretched from the early morning on Friday into the late evening on Saturday. Even though they only had three minutes to perform, both teams impressed the judges and rose to their full heights. The hard work they put in at practice and games has obviously paid off.
