My Favorite Disney Movie

Andrew Weaver, Rookie Reporter

Disney has been a staple in our world’s culture for a little over 95 years, and over that time Disney has become one of the largest media juggernauts in the world, largely by creating and acquiring some of the most iconic titles in popular culture such as Pixar, Lucasfilm and Marvel.

With all of that under their belt, Disney has created some revolutionary and amazing movies and TV shows over the years, but, to me, one will always stand out from the rest: Lilo and Stitch. If you aren’t familiar with this story, I’ll catch you up to speed. Lilo and Stitch is the story of a little blue genetically-engineered and illegally made alien named Stitch that escapes the intergalactic government and ends up crash landing in Hawaii to eventually be found and taken to the dog pound.

While all this crazy stuff is going on, this little orphan girl named Lilo who lives with her older sister is having some trouble fitting in with the other kids on the island. She’s pretty bummed about that, so she convinces her sister to go get a dog for her. They head to the pound and Lilo decides to get Stitch, who is still posing as a dog there. So Lilo and Stitch get pretty close and they do some pretty wacky stunts in an attempt to convince Lilo’s older sister to keep Stitch.

The reason this movie stands out to me is the character Stitch, who is just an all-around fun character who you can really emotionally identify with throughout the movie. This keeps you engaged and interested in his journey throughout the movie. I also feel that the main theme of not fitting in plays a key role in making this movie special. It’s interesting seeing Lilo, who can’t fit in with anyone in her town, and Stitch, who is from another part of the galaxy, come together and find comfort in each other. It’s another element in this movie that makes sure you remain emotionally invested in the characters and plot line.

So, in conclusion, I think that the character of Stitch and the special character dynamic of Lilo and Stitch makes this movie stand out from every other Disney movie out there.
