10 things to do in Colorado in December

Keally Peck, Rookie Reporter

During December, many things are going on around the world, including Colorado.

Colorado is known for our mountains that hold many ski resorts, tubing places, and other activities to do in the snow.

This year, many activities can be found by searching on Google Events. The events, however, always change. But one that is certain to stay going until Dec. 22, is the Denver Lights and Sights Show that is going on every night in Denver, where the Denver Capitol building lights up, and you go through the history of Denver through Christmas lights, and the scenes they make.

However, events aren’t the only thing going on in Denver right now. Fox 31 has decided to hold a toy drive for those who have served our country for one, and many stores have a large box to let people fill it up with toys and those toys will be sent to not only the children of those who served and suffered, but also families who can’t afford to buy things for Christmas.

The Frozen Fantasy Fortress is also set for its third season at 120 Buffalo Street in Dillon’s Town Park. The Ice Castle will be hand-constructed from hundreds of thousands of icicles, so the opening date is weather dependent.

Tubing and lessons for learning how to ski are other things you can do as well. In the mountains, snow can fall and gather to great heights. This is good because that is the call for skiers, snowboarders, and tubers to get all their winter gear and head to the hills  to have fun. There are many places in the mountains where you can go to ski, or snowboard, whether you are beginning to learn how, to where you can take the most dangerous route possible! Services like Bustang can even take you up to the mountains using a ski bus to get there so you don’t have to worry about driving in the mountains to go skiing or snowboarding. Tubing is fun as well, and tubers have their own special places and hills for when the snow gathers. Unlike sledding, tubing has a lift where you don’t have to worry about climbing up the hill. The lift will  carry you and the tube up to the top of the hill to go down again.

At Snowmass, a ski resort in Snowmass Mountain in Snowmass Village, there are many activities you can do in the snow, like riding the Breathtaker roller coaster, a roller coaster operational even in the snow! There is also an ice skating rink in downtown Denver at skyline park, where you can rent ice skates and skate for as long as you want, with breaks as well. You can also go around the city of Denver through horse-drawn sleighs with your significant other, and even include your families.

What if you want to stay warm during the holidays? Well, there are also many indoor activities going on as well. A Christmas Carol the play is going on until Dec. 22 in Arapahoe, Denver. There are also many Christmas movies premiering in the joy of Christmas, including Christmas horror movies,  like Black Christmas, which is premiering on Friday the 13th of this month. You can also stay at home and watch old Christmas movie classics, like the Polar Express, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and Frosty the Snowman.

There are many things to do in-doors, and out-doors of Colorado. But, these are only a few things of what Colorado has to offer. There are many more events and activities to do in Colorado, and you can go explore them for yourself. Happy Holidays, everyone!
