“I will start with the fact that modern Ukraine was entirely created by Russia or, to be more precise, by Bolshevik, Communist Russia.”-Vladimir Putin

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is truly terrifying, no matter if you sympathize with Ukraine or have family there. Sadly, however, some people just flat out don’t care and think the United Statesshould stay out of it.

From my personal perspective as a kid who is just reading about this and waking up to the situation and learning about it, I have my own personal opinion. Russia is actively being a bully and breaking international law as an attempt to build back a piece of its empire.

Russia was fine with Ukraine until Ukraine made it known they were planning to join the North Atlantic Trade Organization (NATO). It seems as if Russia feels threatened with the fact that most of western Europe has joined this alliance in fear of Russia taking over and Ukraine not being able to live under a democracy.

People in Russia are protesting and fighting against this because they don’t want war. Currently over 1,000 protesters have been detained and are in custody.

As of today the U.S.has cut Russia’s largest financial institution, Sberbank, including 25 subsidiaries, by imposing correspondent and payable-through account sanctions. Experts predict that sanctions won’t have an immediate effect but will send a message that the U.S. will not stand by and do nothing.

Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III ordered an additional 7,000 troops to Europe with the continent facing the biggest land war since World War II.

What further actions will Biden take? Will Russia make an attempt for other countries if they take over Ukraine? What does the future hold for Ukraine and its citizens?
