They are more than the stereotypical, single, forty-something feline fanatics; cat people are now the hipsters of the pet world.

Now entering the world of small town business, Jennifer Jones is bringing her Cat Café to the Mile High city.

“I think there is a very large stigma against cat people.” Jennifer Jones an aspiring graphic designer, says when it comes to the community she calls home. “Every day I try to break down the barriers and show people we’re just the same as everyone else.”

Jones thinks of herself as an activist in the cat community, breaking the stereotypes that cat owners find themselves labeled with.  For instance Jones isn’t old and single—she’s 25 and “chooses to be independent” She has been a cat lover since her adolescence and enjoys how they spend their days hiding under furniture only bothering her when it comes to feeding.

“I honestly think dog people are the strange ones. I mean having a pet that is that needy and always wants to be with you is too much work for me. This is why I am also opposed to all human relationships,” Jones says.

To help her establish her fight against stereotypes Jones runs a very popular cat Instagram page and an online boutique selling knitwear made from cat fur that is collected naturally from her own fifteen kitties. “I’m not the kind of person that owns a lint brush. I’m proud to be a cat owner and I want the world to know,” she said.

Jones’ latest business venture is her Cat Café where other cat lovers can enjoy sipping cappuccinos and petting their furry companions. This is the second cat business Jones’ has run after her Catnip dispensary that closed last fall.

“I think combining cats and coffee is a way of showing what our cat lover world is really about,” Jones says.
(Jones’ cat bar was closed as this issue went to press, due to health code violations.)
