The Haystack Is Back!
The Wheat Ridge Haystack is an amazing opportunity for students to partake in. A journalism club may not seem like an opportunity at first, but it opens the doors to endless possibilities.
Senior Alice Morrissey became our editor-in-chief for our 2023-2024 school year. From her experiences years prior she was familiar with editing other people’s content and writing articles and producing podcasts it herself. Co-creator of the podcast Hometown Homicide, she branches out her skills by creating, writing, and recording this podcast, demonstrating her knowledge of journalism and editing expertise.
Before becoming a member of the Haystack, Morrissey had yet to learn that she might want to pursue journalism in her educational future. But now, her time spent in the class serves as a baseline for scholarship applications and college applications, as well as job resumes.
What’s good about the Newspaper club? I could go on and on about this topic, but to save time and attention spans, the best answer is the people!
The Wheat Ridge Haystack fosters one of the best communities in the school.
Ms. Landon, the adviser who has come out of retirement to lead the club, is a fantastic support system, always offering unwavering support and real honest, constructive criticism. Throughout our time In the Haystack Club we have been able to create new bonds and friendships with people that share the same passions and motivations as us. From fun lunch dates to goofy podcasts, joining the newspaper has created some of my best memories in high school!
So how can you get involved?
We are open for new members to join! Whether your passion is writing, podcasting, photography, or you are just looking to make some new friends, the newspaper club is the best place to be!
Beginning the second semester, we will meet on Tuesdays after school in the computer lab (room 12)!
If you are interested, please speak to Ms. Landon ([email protected])
